Letchworth Garden City – what you need to know

Letchworth has a unique heritage of being the world’s first garden city, a design intended to harmoniously combine town and country living. As a result, the town now boasts an interesting variety of sights to visit and explore. We’ve done our research and hand-picked some of Letchworth’s best bits that you’ll definitely want to check out.

Try the Broadway Cinema and Theatre for up-to-date film releases and regular shows. The cinema is a restored Art Deco building from the 30’s, and offers an old school experience for movie and theatre goers. To learn about the rich and varied history of the town, head down to the International Garden Cities Exhibition, just a stone’s throw from the centre of Letchworth.

In true Garden City style, you won’t want to miss striding out amongst the woodlands of Norton Common, taking a stroll in Broadway Gardens with its impressive fountain or cooling off by Howard Park’s splash park.

If you’re feeling more active, then there’s the Lido, open early until 6.30pm, or take your bike and explore one of the many cycle trails the town has to offer. There’s also Letchworth Golf Club, which offers a range of courses for beginners to professionals.

Getting to and from Letchworth couldn’t be more straightforward. The town has great connections into surrounding areas, being just 30 minutes’ from Cambridge, and 45 minutes’ train ride to London’s Kings Cross.
