The Dot Dot Dot guide to living in Barkingside

November 20, 2019

Barkingside is one of our lesser-known London locations, but what if I told you that you are a 30-minute jaunt down the Central Line from the big city? That you’re a short walk away from beautiful country walks and water sports? And there are an array of cool drinking spots and cafe’s for you to indulge in? Below you’ll find our top tips for why you should escape Central London and make the most of Greater London living in Barkingside.

Outdoor AdventuresCycling In barkingside

For those sports-minded among us, you might want to start your weekend off with a bike ride around Redbridge’s cycling centre. Whether you join the long-standing Redbridge Cycling Club for their Saturday and Sunday socials or you opt for a more laid back ride, there’s plenty of tracks you can choose from and an extensive range of bikes you can hire.

If cycling isn’t your thing than Barkingside actually has a huge amount of water sports on offer too!  The rowing club is accepting new members regardless of experience, so now might be the time to take up that new hobby! With sailing, canoeing, angling on offer there’s lots on offer to keep you entertained all weekend.

Great Pubs & Cafe’sThe great pubs in Barkingside

Once you’ve worked up a good thirst, you’ll want to stumble into the warm embrace of The Two Brewers pub in Chigwell, who’ll welcome you with a pint in front of a log-burning fire. Or if you’re feeling a little fancy, Sheesh has got you covered with a heated outdoor terrace that you can enjoy all year round.

If you’re a couple of pints down, you’ll probably be wanting a slap-up meal right about now. Look no further than Capricho Portuguese Kitchen, located right in the centre of Barkingside. With beautifully presented dishes and an equally beautiful interior, your stomach and your Instagram feed will be thanking you for this one. If you want to continue into the night, they have a long list of exciting drinks to choose from too

Yosi’s Kitchen is another Barkingside Saturday night hotspot, with 9 different food and drinks vendors serving street food, craft beers and cocktails. If you’re after a mid-week hangout spot, Yosi’s also has a weekday happy hour from 4-6 pm.

When that inevitable Sunday hangover hits, head to Café 104 for a restorative fry up and coffee before heading out to catch some fresh air at Fairlop Waters and Country Park. Finally, home is where the heart is, and there is nothing more hearty nor more wholesome than a Sunday roast with your mates at the Unicorn. Get a crew together, prepare to undo your top button and loosen your belt as you finish off the week in style.
