This shared house, home to our wonderful guardian community in the area, is situated in a lovely location opposite Chalkwell Park, the property is conveniently just 10 minutes’ walk from the seafront and within easy reach of shops, banks and restaurants on the high street.

Transport links: Chalkwell railway station is a 10 minute walk. There are regular buses into Southend town centre which will get you there in 15 minutes.

The property

Features and facilities: The bedrooms have large windows, flooding the spaces in plenty of natural light as well as providing lovely views over the garden and down to the sea. There are bathrooms on each floor, and you can make yourself at home in the ground floor shared living room and kitchen. There is also a little conservatory at the back of the property, which opens out onto the surrounding garden.

Outdoor space:  Our current guardians at the property have brilliantly transformed the large garden into a welcoming outdoor space, perfect for enjoying the warmer weather  – there is also a terrace with wooden decking and a pergola which is perfect for enjoying meals outside. 

Opposite the property is Chalkwell Park, with its ornamental gardens and recreational sports including Leigh-on-Sea Cricket Club. Nearby, there is also a tennis, and bowling club. A 10 minute stroll will take you to the stunning seafront where you can enjoy some lovely walks and enjoy the local beach cafes. 

Parking/bike storage: You can store your bike inside the property. There is also plenty of free parking available outside the property.

The high street

Within five minutes’ walk, you can access the high street where there is an Aldi, Tesco Express and M&S Food. From here you can catch regular buses direct to Southend city centre in 15 minutes, where you will find a Boots; Currys PC World; Sports Direct; H&M; TK Maxx; The Range; Marks & Spencer and two shopping centres. 

There are a wide range of eateries and restaurants including Creams; Italian restaurant, Il Pescatore; Candlelit Dickensian style bar, The Pipe of Port and restaurant and cocktail bar, The Royal Hotel. Closer to home in Chalkwell, Rossi Ice Cream Parlour offers authentic Italian gelato whilst Toulouse Restaurant has a great french-inspired menu. There is also a wide range of cafes to sample including Daley’s Coffee House; The Temple Cafe and Saltwater Beach Cafe. 

Arts and leisure

Chalkwell Park is home to Metal Culture, an arts centre offering creative classes with a mission to encourage positive change in the local community through inspiring art and ideas. They’ve transformed their residence from being an empty space into a vibrant cultural hub for the community. This is also a great place to volunteer, where you can support their mental wellbeing groups, educational projects and creative events! 

Westcliffe library is a few minutes’ walk away from the property, and the performing arts theatre, Cliffs Pavilion, is a 20 minute stroll. Here, you can enjoy live performances as well as dinner with dramatic views across the town. In Southend town centre, there is an ODEON cinema and Focal Point Gallery showcasing contemporary and conceptual film work. 

Southend Pier is a major landmark and Grade-II listed building. It offers one and a half miles of impressive viewings out to sea and plenty of places to stop and enjoy a bite to eat along the way. You can also take the vintage train out to the end of the pier to visit the shops and ice cream stands whilst taking in the view.
